My Love/Hate Relationship with School...
No... you are right... I am not actually in school... but it is like I have never left. You see, since I graduated university in 2000 I have either worked at the school I graduated from, or my recent employer - yes - yet another post-secondary institute. So basically I can say that with the exception of summer holidays through grade school and university I have been going to school every day for the past 26 years (holy crap... 26 freaking years... I feel so OLD right now!). The first day (or week) of classes is where I have the love/hate relationship thing going on...
I love...
... the fact that 'cause the students are back I can enjoy Coke again. The school I work at is a freaking Pepsi campus, but when the student union building is open I can get ice cold Coke in the little cornerstore...
I hate...
... crowded parking lots... and the fact that even though I own a fancy new car there are students driving freaking Hummers and BMWs to school...
I love...
... a better selection of food... once again thanks to the student union building that after a summer of renovations now also includes a Thai place, a Vietnamese place, a Tace del Mar (not really a big deal for me) and a curry place that is still under construction.
I hate...
... that my grilled cheese and fries place is still under construction but I know it is coming so it is only a momentary 'hate'.
I love...
... I have run out of reasons to love school starting again...
I hate...
... g-strings... thongs... butt floss... whatever you may call them. Keep that crap in your pants ladies!
I suppose I could be all mushy and gushy and say that the students bring a vibrant air to the campus - and yes they do - but they also bring their inability to read e-mails, follow directions and a 'you-need-to-do-everything-for-me-cause-my-mommy-used-to-do-everything-for-me-and-now-I-need-a-replacement-mommy' attitude... which isn't so much fun.
Cheers to a new school year!
