In the Market...

For a digital SLR camera... a kinda nice one with a decent lens... I have heard rave reviews of the Canon Rebel... that is what all the cool blogging crafty people use... but I don't want to spend too much moola... and I don't necessarily need the ability to take a picture of the hair on a camels ass at twenty paces or anything... just take decent pictures... and quickly - like when I press the trigger button I want a few pictures taken in a row instead of waiting {forever} like I do with my current digital camera...

Any suggestions greatly appreciated...

I'll take your current camera from you... As for camel ass air - uh, no, not something you need to have a pic of at any pace (not really sure what that means, but sounds like a techie camera thingy) ... Happy shopping.

  2. If you just need a good steady camera don't spend over $700 and at this point I'd wait for the boxing day sales... the cameras that are $1K are good, but the really good camel ass cameras are well over $1K.. more like $1,500 or $3,000 - if you want the lens and options for lens you'll need to spend right around $700 - and if you wait till xmas you might get a great deal that comes with lens for $700

Brands - well I've seen some great stuff with Pentax - you could probably pick up one for $500 and then have some cash for a lens - I'm a Canon girl, but my photography friend is into Nikon. I don't really think there is a huge difference between them and I've been a subscriber to a photography magazine all year and I don't really see them getting too caught up in which is better.

If you don't need a lens (be serious - are you really going to use multiple lens) then you could spend $300 and get something pretty good. My sony is was $300 ish and it takes good photos. Maybe we can chat about this over coffee at the end of the month... I'm sure you will be pretty booked with the girls of PG, but let me know if you have a free hour for coffee or whatever...
