O-B-A-M-A!
I am writing this post as Ohio is painted blue. I am hoping that because I am setting this post to go live in the morning that I am not pulling a Dan Rather and predicting Obama's win too early.
I just had a moment of reality when I realized that although I did watch the results of the Canadian election on the news (and yes I voted - even though there were no "I Voted" stickers, no free Starbucks and we don't even have Ben and Jerry stores here to get free ice cream from)... for some reason I have been following the US elections more closely.
An election that I have absolutely no say in. But that has a lot of say in who I am as a Canadian in a down-turned economy (blah, blah, blah). Let's face it... us Canucks need to be on the new Prez's good side (if you are reading this Harper - that means don't piss of Obama!).
I am blaming it on my blogging peeps. And by blame I thank them for their insight and honesty - towards both Obama and McCain. Both {apparently} competent men... just with very differing ideals and views of how to run a country.
I always liked blue over red anyways.

While I completely and utterly dislike Obama, I find your post really really interesting.
ReplyDeleteI am always curious what our Northern neighbors think about our elections and government. Our countries clearly operate pretty differently. I have an aunt and uncle who live in Ontario, and they always provide such wonderful insights.
It is interesting, because I hear + read such varying things. My uncle is a doctor in Canada, and he has huge issue with the health care system up there. It is something he has always admired about the US. Funny now that we'll probably have the same system as Canada.
It is all quite confusing for me...emotionally right now. While I am amazingly proud that our country has come so far over the past 100 years to have a black man as President, I am deeply disturbed by his policies. DEEPLY.
I have a huge fear of socialism, and I really don't think it is fair to take someone's hard earned money and give it to someone else.
Again, it is pretty cool to hear your thoughts. I wish that more people from other countries would write their thoughts so eloquently.
Amen Mrs. Newlywed. I think I feel the same way.

ReplyDeleteI do understand where you are coming from and such a fundamental change in leadership in the US is going to make for an "interesting" four years.
As for health care... I see benefits to the universal health care system - the fact that it indeed is universal. There are drawbacks - long waitlists, a doctor's shortage... but in the long run I know that if I need help I will get it without having to sell my second born - I may have to wait until my second born is actually born - but I will get the help.
