Oh... the Absurdity!

So... it looks like, thanks to the CRTC, Canadians are going to be going to a user-based billing model for internet (which sounds a lot like the extra baggage charge Westjet has initiated... but that's for another rant).  Meaning that they want to charge us upwards of $2 per GB to play on the interwebs.

Some companies are going to be dropping peoples download from as much as 125GB to 25GB for the same price.

Does the internet really cost that much?

Oh yeah... NO!

It's total bullshit that the CRTC (who are supposed to be working in the best interest of Canadians - but we've seen how well they do with regards to "helping" us get better cell phone competition/service/prices, letting us see Super Bowl commercials, etc.) is allowing this to happen.  It is just allowing the providers to make more money for less service.

If you are a Canadian who is equally as pissed off that this ruling has come into effect, make sure you go and visit the CRTC complaint portal or sign the petition To Stop the Meter, and the absurdity. So far, over 225,000 Canadians have signed the petition.  Hopefully someone takes notice (and not just the Liberal Party of Canada, cause we all know how well they help us...)
