Pinterest Pondering

I spend quite a bit of time perusing Pinterest. One *may* say I'm addicted - I prefer to be called a "fan".

While looking through the Food & Drinks category, here are a few thoughts that have recently come to mind...

1. Mashed cauliflower will NEVER be a substitute for mashed potatoes. EVER.
2. No matter how much you try and convince me, kale chips are not better than potato chips. Not that I've ever tried kale chips, but really - I wasn't born yesterday people! Same goes for "carrot chips" and any other vegetable other than potatoes made into chip form.
3. Spaghetti squash is not pasta! It's a freaking vegetable! I don't care what sauces you put on it!
4. Cauliflower rice? Bite me. I like my rice real thanks.
5. Banana pancakes? I'm sorry, but mashed bananas and oatmeal do not make a pancake.
6. Baked zucchini "fries"... see rant #3.
7. Baked buffalo cauliflower? As a replacement for chicken wings? Here's the big difference - cauliflower is not chicken! Not everything can "taste like chicken" dammit!

I guess I'm a food purist. I like my vegetables to taste like the vegetables they were grown to taste like!  Seriously though people... stop it with the cauliflower!

  1. Awesome! Thank you!
I totally agree... cauliflower needs to stay in the steamer or in the dip tray - do not pretend to be something we love... stop it... I said stop it! :)
    Thank you!

  2. mashed cauliflower...made the right way, is really good!! but it's an alternative, not a substitute, for mashed potatoes!! that's the clincher! I think the way people present it is the problem. Nothing will ever be as good as a potato, but if you make them well, it's a good substitute! (they mean nutrition-wise, not necessarily taste wise...)
Same as spaghetti squash...its not a substitute, but an alternative. It's not horrible, but it tastes good prepared the same as pasta.

Well I make fake potato salad by subbing in steamed cauliflower for potato. I flavours from potato saldad ar there, but the texture is not a 'meaty' as with potatoes. I like it and I don't get acid reflux from it. I also like spagetti squash as a sustitute for pasta as long as it still has some crunch to it. And I also don't get acid reflux. But then I like spag squash just with a bit of butter and some pepper on it just as a veg. I've made fake pancakes with beaten egg whites and a mashed banana and they are not bad. More like a crepe consistancy though. Haven't tried the cauliflower pizza crust or kale chips yet and probably won't. Call me crazy!!! Love Mo

It looks like my fingers can't spell again tonight, but I made lasagna with thin strips of zucchini squash instead of noddles and I have to say it was probably one of the best lasagnas I've made. I also used rocotta cheese instead of cottage cheese and I like that better also. Go figure!!! Trying to go gluten free hence the switch to veggies instead of pasta. Love Mo
