Dancing with the Angels

by - Monday, February 09, 2009

Yesterday, the world lost a great man.

My stepdad passed away peacefully after a (thankfully) brief battle with cancer.

He died with my brother at his side, and my mom and I were there within minutes to say our goodbyes. Luckily, he was able to say his goodbyes to his two daughters and two grandsons last weekend when they made the trip up to see him in the hospital from the States.

John didn’t want a service or anything. He didn’t like being in the spotlight when he was with us (he did an amazing amount of volunteer work for local charities) and I guess he figured that he didn’t need the spotlight after he left us. That was just how he was.

All I know is that wherever he is, that he is probably teaching those angels a lesson or two… because he told us a couple of nights ago he wanted to go dance with them (he even flapped his “wings”, which made us all laugh a little…).

I love you John, thanks for being in my and my family's life for the past fifteen years. I will miss you.

I would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to post comments and send me e-mails – I haven’t been great at responding to things lately, but I really do appreciate the thoughts and prayers.

  7. i don't think a blog comment is exactly a great way of saying i'm sorry for your loss, but you gotta work with what you've got.

it sounds like john did amazing things with his time on earth, and i'm certain he's flapping his wings with some angels now.

<3 of course, my thoughts are with you, sweetheart.
