I'm Probably Going to Lose Followers for this Post...

by - Friday, June 26, 2009

But please tell me I am not the only person in the world who, after the initial "shock" (term used lightly - you had to know that a bazillion dollars of plastic surgery and the lack of a real nose would catch up on him) of Michael Jackson's death, is now rather "meh" about the whole thing...

It was so yesterday. Don't we have political unrest in Iran or the H1N1 pandemic to talk about anymore?

Seriously, acquitted or not or child molestation charges, the dude was a freaking whack job.

Maybe I feel this way because my parents deprived me of Michael Jackson music at an early age.

I would like to thank my mom for that deprivation.

I wonder how many followers I will lose because of this post?

  2. it makes me sad because he was part of my childhood and it's a whole "dealing with your own mortality" thing.

i'll admit that i shed a couple of tears, but i was having a bad day yesterday and i cried a few times over some very un-sad things.

what i hate is the fact that it is now a crazy-ass media circus.

  3. I'm a little meh about it. Here are my feelings on the whole thing....we haven't really seen him do anything but act crazy for the past several years. All we pretty much had of MJ was nostalgia anyway, so while it's very sad for his family and friends who knew and loved him as a person, it really doesn't change a thing for the rest of us.

  4. I think my sister said it best with her facebook status... 3000 children died in africa yesterday due to Malaria. This MJ thing is just silly.

Death is sad. But celebrity death is not more sad than regular death. So hearing that someone died and thinking of their family is one thing - but other than that I, too, get rather *meh* about the whole thing.

    Plus, hello, bat-shit crazy.

  6. MJ's passing is almost a kind of relief.... because at least one of the world's tortured souls can be at peace now.

  7. Yeah. I'm still here.

Seriously, I'm a fan of MJ pre-2000. I think I was barely in middle school when I realised he's not all he's cracked up to be. His music = ledgendary but I prefer to idol worship the full package.

  8. mj's death is sad, of course, but it has not affected me at all.

i found out while crazy busy at work, and after receiving 5 texts from friends within 5 minutes, announcing his death, i was ready to throw my phone out the window, thinking, "if i stop to mourn the death of michael jackson today, i'll be mourning the loss of my JOB tomorrow".

i feel awful for his family and loved ones, but he has left behind a legacy, and for people like me who simply enjoyed his music, that is plenty enough. after hearing all about his struggles, i just hope he's in a better place now.

  9. I can not even tell you how much I agree with you. He was a weirdo and he wasn't the only one who died that day? Poor Farrah Fawcet.

  10. I'm mostly "meh" about it, except that I really loved his music as a kid. Listening to all the tributes and the radio channels playing his music all day really reminded me of being a little kid and listening to all that on the radio.
