Sunday Hottie of the Week... Old School Edition

by - Sunday, November 02, 2008

My Hottie of the Week hasn't been in a movie in eons... and my eons I really mean a very, very long time.

But, the three movies that I do know he was in are still three of my favorite movies of all time...

And that would be the Anne of Green Gables trilogy.

I don't know how big Anne is outside of Canada - I know she is big in Japan but really, they pretty much glom onto anything western over there sometimes so I can't really use that as much of a gauge.

Gilbert Blythe... he was probably my first actor crush... and I especially liked it when Anne broke a slate over his head.

Introducing Jonathan Crombie... a fine Canadian actor...
And really - if you haven't seen Anne of Green Gables, you really should. I watched the first one on PBS last night (hence why I even remembered Gilbert Blythe even existed) and it still makes me happy when I watch it. A seriously good family movie. And the entire reason behind why I want to visit Prince Edward Island.

I may or may not own the 5-disc DVD set of Anne... I am not telling.

  1. I, too, had my first real crush on Gilbert.

And I, too, might just own the first two Anne movies. The third one doesn't exist in my world because it wasn't cannon.

But I support anyone in their love of all things Anne.

  2. Gilbert is the ideal man. The end.

When I was like 13, I went through Anne Obsession part Deux. And my cousin bought me the Anne of Green Gables VHS set. The place she bought it from ended up being from skeezville and sent me the same VHS tape 8 times. It was the most disappointing day of my life.

  3. Just sitting down with my 6 year old girl in North Wales to watch my video set ..... Did try with her a year or two back but it was too soon...can't wait for her to fall in .ove with story and characters ....interesting to surf the net and find posts like yours to find out what they look like and are doing nowadays.
Mr Blythe a treat for the eyes in that great timeless way of the film.
