My 2007 Personal Goals...

by - Thursday, January 04, 2007

Okay - so resolution is such a tough word... I don't want to say that I am making resolutions - because if I don't accomplish what I set out for then they are broken. If I call them goals, then I can work to attain them, and they are always a work in progress. Here are a few things that I am going to strive to work on over the next year...

1. Move on with my life. For those of you who know me, 2006 wasn't the greatest year for me. My marriage dissolved after only a year and I have recently found out that my soon-to-be ex-husband basically left me for another woman. So this year I plan on moving on. I have a good life - a good job, I am some-what debt free (darned student loan and mortgage!), I own a home, I have a great family and I have awesome friends. But there is a part of me that needs to let go before I can fully move on - I am going to work on that this year. It will be an evolution of sorts - I will be growing up all over again - fancy that as I approach 30 I am feeling the need to grow up all over again - but this time on my own and without a 'crutch' so to speak.

2. This one isn't so heavy - sorry about the first one. This one has to do with my stamping and paper crafting. I see all these cards in magazines - and I think - I can do that! Not to take away from the artists that do get published - but I feel as though I have a similar skill level and I think that I can do it - so I am going to submit at least five projects this year to magazines - I am going to start out with the small ones - I am not going to tackle magazines like Papercrafts just yet - I figure I can send a few cards into Take Ten (making sure of course that they really only do take 10 minutes to complete!) - maybe a couple of more.

3. Keep my house clean. My house has two looks - the clean look and the look like a bomb went off in the room. I am going to strive to at least have the clean look around more often. That means some purging - which is hard for me to do sometimes, easy at other times. I am pretty confident that I don't need to use EVERY nook and cranny of my four bedroom house for myself. I think that I am going to take some loads to charity - not worry about a garage sale - they are too much work!!

4. Be happy. Be happy with my life, be happy with my day-to-day activities, in general - just be a happier person. Whether that translates into me being more outgoing, volunteering more in the community, or just being happy sitting at home watching TV - I will be more happy.

5. Work to stay within a budget. I would like to start saving money - for things like travel. So my goal is not to live paycheck-to-paycheck - to actually have some money in the bank at all times. I make a good living - but for seven years I have been used to two incomes - and unless I find a night job - the years of living in a D.I.N.K. household (Double Income, No Kids - nothing rude) are over.

6. To actually go and play hockey when my team is scheduled to play - I was making up wierd excuses why I couldn't play before Christmas - now I just need to go - vent pent-up frustration (without taking penalties of course) and get my rear-end in shape as I have a wedding to go to in a few months and I want to look good!

Well, I think that is all for now. Sorry for the somewhat depressing post, but I figured that if these goals were out there for literally the whole world to see (even if only three people read them) I will work harder to achieve them.

  2. Good work with the personal goals! I'm trying to do a similar goal setting exercise. I'm not into resolutions either. Goals can change with your life and resolutions do tend to go to the wayside.

I hope all your goals are achieved and that we all have a great 2007. I know I'm looking forward to a fun year.

  3. Ohh! Ohh! I love goals!!

And I LOVE the idea of you submitting cards for publication (or whatever that was)! HOW EXCITING!

And, um, if you need a good co-purger/support for that one weekend after Jim leaves, I'm the most awesome-est person. Really. I've thought of renting myself out as a version of Clean Sweep.
