Just Call Me Robin Sparkles...

by - Friday, May 22, 2009

These are the reasons why I think that the character of Robin Scherbatsky (aka Robin Sparkles) from "How I Met Your Mother" is modeled after moi:

Robin is Canadian.
I am Canadian!

Robin is freakishly tall.
I am freakishly tall!

Robin was a teen singing sensation with the hits "Let's Go to the Mall" and "Sandcastles in the Sun".
I sung back up to Tiffany's "I Think We're Alone Now" in a grade six talent show. With props. And costumes.

Robin played hockey.
I played hockey!

Robin is quoted on the show saying "I'm proud to be Canadian. We may not have a fancy NFL team, or Prince, but we invented Trivial Pursuit—you're welcome, Earth. Plus, in Canada, you can go to an all-nude strip club and order alcohol. That's right. From Moose Jaw to the Bay of Fundy, you can suck down a 20-ounce Pilsner while watching some coal miner's daughter strip down to her pelt. Jealous?"
I have been known to quote various Molson Canadian commercials... "There's an unwritten code in Canada. If you live by it, chances are: You've driven an hour for 19 minutes of ice time. You've been to a bar that starts with Mc or ends in Annigan's. You appreciate a woman who's into sports. You'll call anyone with goalie equipment, a friend. You know what a J-stroke is. And sometimes, figure skating is worth watching. You know the sippy cup lid isn't as dumb as it sounds. You've worn a canoe as a hat. You've assembled a barbecue, and, they're not dents, they're goals. This is our beer, Molson Canadian."

Robin talks about sex in hockey terms, rather than baseball terms... the blueline is making out, the red line is getting naked, and getting in the crease... is well - I am sure you can imagine.
I may have had sex in a hockey rink (sorry Mom).

Robin has a Roberto Luongo jersey.
I have a Trevor Linden jersey... they are both Canucks so that counts.

Robin lays out some freaking awesome one-liners.
I have been known to shock and awe people with my one-liners. More shock than awe at times.

Robin drinks like a fish.
I can drink like a fish given the right combination of drinks, ambiance and cash.

Robin has a "Sparkles" tour t-shirt.
I have t-shirts from the 90's still in my closet... probably from 1993 as a matter of fact.

Yeah... I should get some sort of royalties or something I tell you.
