On Migraines... and the post that I say "barf" a lot in...

by - Friday, December 07, 2012

I've had two migraines in the past couple of weeks.  While I know that is nothing in comparison to some people that I know that suffer from chronic migraines... it's a lot for me.

Normally headaches for me come from one of a couple of known causes: sunstroke (which is my own damn fault), jet lag (which I deal with because travelling around the world seeing new things is totally worth a day of headaches when I return) and muscle/joint misalignment (I see a chiropractor and massage therapist because I'm prone to a bad back which throws out ).

In the past I always associated the headache I got with an upset stomach was a result of the stomach issues... but in the last couple of week, and with the help of my chiropractor, have realized that the barfing and dry heaving is actually a result of the headache... and those together make it a migraine.

Which really sucks.  I'm not sure why I'm getting them, and there doesn't seem to be an over-the-counter drug that will even put a dent on the pain.  I'm tired of laying on the bathroom floor in the dark waiting for the next wave of barfing to happen... even when I think I have nothing left in me to barf.

I really don't want to go to the doctor for a headache.  I don't want to become one of *those* people... you know... the hypochondriacs of the world?  Hang nail? Doctor! Chapped lips? Doctor!

Nope... don't want to become one of them.  But I'm still not sure what to do.

Except continue to lay on the bathroom floor waiting out the barfy feeling.

  1. Go to the doctor. You are not 'one of those people'. When I was sick two years ago I was in the doctor every week and absolutely thought I was 'one of those people' and I told my doctor I felt bad about coming in so often. He said to me - April, don't worry, there are some people who come every day.

We all pay for the medical system - use it. :)

It took me a long time to figure out what to do about my migrains that are brought on by a combination of stress and my back and/or neck being out of alinement. If you sense the migrain coming on get to the chiropractor. I get a funny numbing kind of pain starting at the back of my jaw running up to my temple and the intense nausea is horrible. I don't physically barf, but I can't stand the smell of anything cooking, sound or light. I use to lay in the 'dark'on my side and try to stretch my body out into a straight line. After about two to three hours the intensity of the pain would kind of subside and I could sort of function, but still couldn't eat or cook anything and had to stay in the quiet darkened room. Once I figured out the chiroprator thing the pain was minimal and stayed for less time and I could function fine. Touch wood, I haven't had one for about two years now. Years ago the doctor wrote a prescription for me, but I never filled it so have no idea if it would have worked or not. Both Joe and Mary-lou get them and they take a couple of T3's. Mary-lou sometimes has to go home, but more than not just works in her dark office. Joe goes home and sometimes takes a couple of days off. But I have noticed his are further apart now since his Dad passed way. Stress I think. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. April is right. Love Mo

  3. Totally it's hard to determine when you'll call a headache a chiropractic one. I advise to visit chiropractic clinics often, especially if aching continues. Chiropractic treatments also check the nervous system since this disorder affects most of the nerves.

  4. I'm with you on this one; that sick feeling of dizziness coupled with the need to throw up but not quite being able to do so is definitely a pain. I usually have that with a sudden temperature drop.
