Well, I am down to 17 sleeps until I leave for London.  I have started a dry-run of the packing and I am surprised to say that is is going rather well… there seems to be a lot of room left in my suitcase and that is including my sleeping bag… I kinda think that I am missing something!  I have been checking out the Contikipedia – Matty V and his crew have been hard at work here!  Here are some things that they discuss (I am totally not taking credit for these lists!!)…
Suggested Carry-On Luggage Packing List:
  • airline tickets
  • passport
  • travel insurance details and documents
  • credit cards
  • Visas (if you need them – I don’t for any of the countries that I am visiting)
  • local currency for your desination (I am taking both British Pounds and Euros)
  • Identification (driver’s license, student ID if you think it will save you money)
  • camera and memory
  • iPod (that is my addition)
  • travel pillow (also my addition)
I also plan on taking the Tube from Heathrow to the Royal National Hotel in London… I figure if I could ride the Tube when I was 8 I can sure as heck do it now (and no – I didn’t ride it alone when I was 8 although I am pretty sure I tried!)… here is the route from the Russell Square Tube Station (right on the Picadilly Line) to the hotel…
Turn left as you exit the Russell Square Station at the street level Take the second right and follow the road for roughly 100 meters (300 feet) and the Royal National Hotel will be on your left hand side on the opposite side of the road. The ‘London Pub’ is part of the hotel building.
I do get a Tube pass included in my Check Out London package, but I am going to save that for the four nights I am there after my tour.  I will probably just buy a day pass so that I can use it the next day as well…
OK… that is enough thinking for tonight… but since it is getting closer to departure day I am sure that I will have a lot more to post in the coming days!
