When I Could Play Every Character in a Movie...

by - Tuesday, June 09, 2009

This weekend I watched "He's Just Not That Into You"... now from the tweets that I had read I was expecting really anything from the best chick flick in the world to a movie that made women look like the most retarded creatures to ever roam the Earth.

What I did find was... well... me.

I saw myself in Anna. Getting involved with the wrong guy. Having great sex, even when you know it is wrong. Perhaps hoping that you were chosen because of who you are and not just a convenience. Wishing that more could happen than actually ever will. But eventually making the right decision (I am working on that part).

I also saw myself in Gigi. The insecure girl that reads far too much into things. The girl that so desperately wants a relationship. The girl who may give just a little too much of herself to make that a reality. But eventually, those little quirks that make her who she is gets her the guy she deserves (I am hoping for this part).

Is it pathetic that I see myself as a character in a movie? We won't even get into the fact that I watched "The Holiday" twice this weekend as well... damn network television.

Somebody keep me away from chick flicks. I am not sure that they are good for my health.

  1. Sweetie, I wrote a whole thesis on how media provides us with images for us to see ourselves in, think about our identity, yadda yadda yadda.

  2. I see myself in characters often - I think that's the point a lot of the time. If you can't relate to the character, you don't care what happens to them.

    Hopefully you'll get a Gigi ending ;>

  3. its not pathetic. because you can recognize it.

i read the book when it came out, it started me on a journey of self discovery. in the book there is a phrase that stood out "you deserve a phone call"

if a guy cant take the time to call you he isnt worth your time, and he doesnt like you.

the more you realize what you like and the things you dont like in yourself, you will be able to change what you dont like, and become more what you do like.

therefore, putting those feelings in the past, that you have to have a guy or reading into things, because you will be secure in yourself.
